Cuando una familia de seis hijos costarricenses, se separa debido a la inmigración ilegal, la angustia —por saber donde está su verdadero hogar— aumenta. Los cuatro hermanos mayores, siguen los mismos pasos que otros hombres de la localidad: han abandonado su casa para trabajar ilegalmente en Estados Unidos. Atrás dejaron a su madre y hermanos pequeños en este pueblo montañoso, que comienza a ser llamado “la isla de las mujeres solitarias”.
Mientras crecen en una cultura extranjera, estos chicos se enfrentan a ciertos conflictos de identidad. Un problema inesperado surge y necesitan que vuelvan. Una nueva etapa en la familia ha comenzado, un ciclo de desarraigo. ¿Se han ‘americanizado’ tanto que no pueden regresar?
Este documental nos recuerda, que aunque mucha gente en el mundo se preocupa por la protección de sus fronteras, cada inmigrante tiene una familia, una historia y un sueño.

When a family of six Costa Rican siblings separates through illegal immigration, uncertainty arises about where home really is. The four oldest brothers follow in the footsteps of other local men who have left home to work illegally in the U.S., leaving their rustic mountain village to become “the island of lonely women.”
The young men coming of age in a foreign culture struggle with conflicted self identities. Urgent matters call them back home. Have they become too “Americanized” to return? A cycle has begun in the family, a cycle of rootlessness.
The film reveals, on a personal level, the complexity of this charged global issue. There are an estimated 12 million “illegal immigrants” in the U.S. While people everywhere worry about the protection of their borders, each individual immigrant has a family, a story and a dream.
